The steel behind the robot.

Bases, end-of-arm tooling, guarding, and cell steel for robot installs — the fabrication half of automation, done by people who work in plants.

The service

Robotics Integration & Support

Every robot cell stands on fabricated steel: machined-flat bases, end-of-arm tooling, pedestal risers, conveyor interfaces, and the guarding that keeps people out of the envelope. Apex Fabrication builds that infrastructure for integrators and plant engineering teams across Northwest Indiana and Chicagoland.

We fabricate to your integrator's drawings or reverse-engineer from the cell itself — and because we're local, revisions happen in days, not shipping cycles.

Capabilities

What this covers

  • Robot bases and pedestals built flat, square, and anchored to spec
  • End-of-arm tooling frames, grippers, and product-specific fixtures
  • Perimeter guarding, safety fence, and interlocked gate framing
  • Conveyor infeed/outfeed interfaces for pick-and-place and palletizing cells
  • Cell relocations — cut loose, move, re-anchor, re-square
  • Modifications after debug, when the cell meets real product
In practice

Jobs this service exists for

Palletizing cells that need infeed conveyor and base steel to integrator spec

Case-packing robots that need guarding brought up to plant safety standards

Retooling an existing cell for a new product size without a new integrator contract

Questions we hear

Robotics FAQs

Do you program robots?

No — we're the fabrication partner. We build the bases, tooling, guarding, and conveyor interfaces your integrator or controls team specifies, and we install them plumb, level, and anchored.

Can you work from our integrator's drawings?

Yes. Send drawings and we'll fabricate to print. No drawings? We field-measure the cell and build to fit — a common path when retooling older cells for new products.

How fast can you turn guarding changes after a safety audit?

Typically days. Guarding revisions after an audit are one of our most common rush jobs, and being 20 minutes from most Lake County plants beats freight from any catalog vendor.
